Overview

Starting with Homemanager 4 you can connect Homebridge systems with 2FA enabled.

2FA adds an extra layer of security by forcing you to enter a verification code, provided by an Authenticator App, every time your login session expired.

‍

System Requirements

In order to use 2FA as authentication method, you need a Homebridge system withΒ Homebridge UI V4.29.0 or newer which has 2FA enabled.

‍

Best Practice for Homemanager

As you might experience frequent 2FA Code requests inside the app (based on the default timeout), there is also a possibility to have the extra layer of security while still having a comfortable experience in the app.

We recommend to increase the session timeout. You can do that on the web interface by selecting the three dots at the top right, then "UIΒ Settings", unfold the section "Advanced". In the field "Session Timeout" you can enter the seconds after which each login expires. Some examples:

  • 7 Days -> 604800
  • 2 Weeks -> 1209600
  • 1 Month (recommended)-> 2592000
  • 3 Months -> 7776000

‍

Setup 2FA on Homebridge UI

In case you haven't set up 2FA yet, you can do it very easily on the web interface by selecting the three dots at the top right, then "User Accounts", press "Setup 2FA" and follow the instructions.
